Welcome to the My Doula Best Friend Blog! I am excited to share with you everything I have learned as a postpartum doula and certified lactation counselor.
I founded My Doula Best Friend after my three closest friends gave birth within months of each other, and I saw how the support they received from friends and family left multiple holes, adding to the already stressful newborn phase.
I have since become a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) and certified Postpartum Doula (PCD), adding to the list of acronyms foreign to many new parents. Let me explain what each credential means:
- Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC): A lactation professional who is adept in handling common breastfeeding problems, assessing latch, and supporting parents in whichever way they choose to feed their baby. A step below IBCLC’s, CLCs are also able to make referrals to community providers for more complex situations when they arise.
- Postpartum Doula (PCD): A trained professional who supports new parents during the first weeks or months after birth, providing emotional, physical, and practical care for both the family and newborn.
What does having this dual-credential mean? Whether you are breastfeeding or formula feeding, caring for a singleton or a multiple, I will be ready to support your family however you need. My goal is helping you heal and have the most fulfilling postpartum experience possible.
Alright best friends, that’s all for now. I’m excited to meet you and your families soon!
Rachel
